Summary of Juvenile Epilepsy and how I have managed.....
Check out MY STORY for all the details!

Ok, before I go any further in this article let me explain the title. I have had Juvenile Epilepsy since I was 14, never experienced the grand mal seizures, just mild, and what I have come accustomed to
calling jerks. As a teenager growing up with seizures was difficult. It is bad enough fighting with peer pressure and low self-esteem but on top of it having a seizure in the middle of the lunch room and falling on the floor, I don't know what could be any more embarrassing. I think I remember getting up real cool like and dusting myself off and saying "oh, I'm fine", and sitting right down starring at my food like I wish I could become one of those tater tots. I remember one time I was walking to one of my classes in college and on the way, no joke, I probably fell about 20 times before I decided I should probably go home. Rebellious. Becoming 30 this year, I will admit I was a bit rebellious when I was younger about taking my medicine, ask me now and I couldn't tell you why but I can tell you and you have heard it a thousand times, maturity comes with age! I agree, I agree.

The doctors were not sure what brought on the seizures, some thought stress, some genetics and still one thought I was making it up, but without question, the doctors put me through test after test. No real answers came from the tests except, I am a pretty normal kid with seizures. After trying several different medications we finally found one that worked for me! I take a medicine called Phenobarbital every night religiously now (with the help of my husband reminding me) and as of yet has brought on no side effects and I live seizure free! I have had 3 healthy babies with some seizure problems, but I and the girls all came out healthy in the end. I would say it was probably the most difficult for my husband than us through the delivery, but he came out in the end of it all great.

When talking to people and the subject gets brought up they are always surprised when they find out I have epilepsy but I guess because I have had them under control for so many years I forget about it and I have never let the epilepsy become who I am. I guess you could say that my seizures are out of sight and out of mind.
